01 — ContextWhat is the CEnT-S Exam?
The CEnT-S, or CISIA English Test – Science, is a new entrance exam introduced by CISIA, the official Italian testing consortium. It is designed for students who wish to apply for English-taught bachelor’s programmes in Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Business, Biology, or Pharmacy at Italian public universities.
From November 2025, CEnT-S replaces earlier tests like TOLC-I, TOLC-E, and TOLC-F for several science-related courses. This change aims to make the admission process easier and more uniform for both Italian and international students.
02 — ContextWhy the CEnT-S Exam Matters
Thousands of students dream of studying in Italy every year, but the new system has created confusion about the format, syllabus, and preparation. That is why understanding CEnT-S properly is so important.
CEnT-S is accepted by many universities for a wide range of science, engineering, economics, and biology-related programmes. It tests your readiness through subjects like:
- Reasoning on texts and data
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
If you plan to study STEM or related programmes in Italy, the CEnT-S exam is a key step toward admission.
03 — StructureCEnT-S Exam Structure
The CEnT-S test is computer-based and conducted through CISIA’s platform. The structure is:
- Reasoning on texts and data: 15 questions, 30 minutes
- Mathematics: 15 questions, 30 minutes
- Chemistry: 10 questions, 20 minutes
- Physics: 5 questions, 10 minutes
- Biology: 10 questions, 20 minutes
Total duration: 110 minutes.
Question type: Multiple choice.
04 — MechanicsEvaluation and Normalisation
The CEnT-S result is based on the number of correct, unanswered, and incorrect responses:
- 1 point for each correct answer
- 0 points for each unanswered question
- -0.25 points for each incorrect answer
The normalised score is the final official test result. It is calculated from the raw score and a normalisation coefficient, which compensates for the difficulty of the specific test version you take. The official normalised score is available in the CISIA Student Area at the end of the macro-period.
